Our authors & editorial team

Every review on VapeMate carries a byline because someone is accountable for it. Our writers open real accounts, make real deposits and request real withdrawals so the payout times and banking notes you read are tested, not copied from a press release. Here is who they are.

Jack ThorntonJack Thornton — Lead Casino & Betting Writer

Jack has covered online gambling for more than eight years, with a focus on bonus mathematics and withdrawal reliability. He built VapeMate's scoring model and is the person most likely to be found timing a cash-out at 2am to see whether an operator's "instant" withdrawal really is.

Areas of expertise: casino bonus terms and wagering, sportsbook odds and markets, payout-speed testing, offshore licensing.
Covers: online casinos, sports betting.

Hana WiremuHana Wiremu — Editor & Responsible Gambling Lead

Hana edits everything that goes live and owns our responsible-gambling standards. A Wellington-based writer with a background in consumer journalism, she keeps our New Zealand regulatory coverage current — including the Department of Internal Affairs reforms rolling out from late 2026 — and makes sure harm-minimisation information sits on every page.

Areas of expertise: editorial standards, NZ gambling law and the DIA framework, crypto casinos, responsible gambling.
Covers: crypto casinos, regulation, methodology.

How we review and rate

Our review methodology is the same for every operator, so rankings are comparable across casino, betting and crypto:

  1. Sign up and verify. We create an account as a New Zealand player and complete identity verification (KYC), noting how long it takes and what documents are required.
  2. Deposit in NZD or crypto. We test the deposit methods Kiwis actually use and record minimums, fees and speed.
  3. Play and claim the bonus. We read the full bonus terms — wagering, maximum bet, game weighting, expiry — and work out how clearable the offer really is.
  4. Withdraw. We request a cash-out and time it end to end. Slow or obstructed withdrawals are the fastest way for an operator to lose rank.
  5. Check the record. We cross-reference independent player feedback on Reddit, Trustpilot and casino forums for patterns of complaints.

Scores (out of 5) reflect bonus value you can realistically clear, payout speed, game or market range, banking, support and trust. They are our informed editorial opinion, updated as offers and operators change.
